Popular 8 Note Songs - Music Patterns to Color
This is a Coloring Book!
In this music pattern book, you get to decide the color of each of the notes in these songs. You can color the patterns to match any multi-colored glockenspiel, xylophone or set of hand bells, or you can use the song patterns with other instruments like a recorder or piano, coloring them any hue you like! |
How to Color Music Patterns
When I was a child, coloring books were just for kids. Now one of the biggest hobby trends is coloring books for adults. Many are finding that coloring helps them de-stress and relax because filling in designs with color allows people to calm their minds and focus on a simple activity.
A new option to the coloring book genre is the book Popular 8 Note Songs Music Patterns to Color by Debra Newby. Instead of coloring mandalas or geometric patterns, kids and adults alike can color rectangular boxes that correspond to the movement of notes in various songs. The song patterns |
can then be used to create music with any instrument that has eight notes in a C to C scale.
If you have a multi-colored glockenspiel, xylophone or hand bells, you can chose colors that exactly match your instrument. For those playing recorder, piano and other instruments, musicians can chose their favorite colors for each note on the patterns. |
Be sure to be consistent. Once you chose a color for a note – let’s say the color red for the “C” note, then all the “C” notes throughout the entire book should be colored red. Continue to color the rest of the patterns to match your original color choices.
Even if you do not color the rectangular boxes, you can still play the songs by reading the lettered notes below each box, so you can play the music patterns with or without color. |
Listen and Learn:
The audio tracks of all the songs in the book Popular 8 Note Songs Music Patterns to Color are free online at www.UpadoUnlimited.com so you can listen to the song patterns you are coloring as you color, and then use the audio tracks to help you learn the songs on your instrument. Coloring Patterns with a Glockenspiel, Xylophone or Hand Bells: For those matching the music patterns to the specific colors of a multi-colored instrument, start by going to the “Music Notes and Rhythm” page (pg. 10) of Popular 8 Note Songs Music Patterns to Color and choosing the colors for each rectangular block that match the colors of the notes or keys on your instrument. |
Use colored pencils with a sharp point to color the small rectangular boxes. We like to use Prismacolor pencils, but there are many other options available.
Do not use ink pens as the color will bleed through to the other side of the paper. The pattern blocks are small, and fine motor skills are required. If you are using the patterns with instruments that are not already multicolored, you can choose any color you like for each of the notes. |
After you have chosen your colors and filled in the “Music Notes and Rhythm” page, go to the first song in the book which is the easiest to play. Use the same colors as you used before and color in the rectangular blocks on the music pattern. If you used the color red for the C note on the “Music Notes and Rhythm” page, color all the C notes red on the song’s music pattern.
Coloring Patterns with a Recorder:
If you are using the patterns with a recorder, fill in the recorder chart at the back of the book by coloring the white circles in each column to match the lettered notes. The circles that you color indicate the holes on the recorder that you cover with your fingers. Do not color the gray circles. These indicate the holes that you leave uncovered. As you look at the song patterns, you will see that the more circles that are colored, the more holes you cover with your fingers. |
Coloring Patterns with a Piano:
The songs can be played without coloring by just reading the lettered notes at the bottom of each line. You can also color in the Piano Keyboard Fingering Chart at the back of the book with any colors you choose. When you finish coloring the Fingering Chart, remove it from the book and cut out the letters and colors rectangle and place it between the back board and keys of your piano. Then color the song patterns in the book to match your Piano Fingering Chart. |
While coloring has its benefits, combining coloring with the many proven advantages of playing a musical instrument provides even more!
